IN THE WAKE OF HIS EVER-VICTORIOUS ARMIES

KING FERDINAND VIEWING THE CAPTURED TOWN OF KAVALA

King Ferdinand, who, in spite of his years, has followed the progress of his conquering armies, is here seen standing amid the Roman ruins at Kavala, viewing the town which was captured by the Bulgarians towards the end of November. Kavala, situated on the shores of the Ægean Sea, was the birthplace of Mehemet Ali, and is chiefly notable for

its numerous Roman remains. On the occasion of its recent capture the town was the scene of massacres by Armenians, who joined the Bulgarian Army as volunteers.
