1— WHAT DOES THE PILE CONSIST OF?

Concrete, poured into a spirally reinforced steel shell which is left in the ground.

2— HOW IS IT PLACED?

The shell is first driven by a mandrel, which is then withdrawn. The concrete is then placed into the shell interior.

3— DO THE SHELLS RUST OUT? IF SO, WHAT HAPPENS?

The shell may rust eventually although the excavation of piles in service ten to fifteen years does not disclose deterioration of steel. If the shell does rust the iron oxide occupies twice the volume of the metallic iron, thereby increasing the ground friction.

4— WHAT EFFECT HAS CLOSE DRIVING ON A NEARBY FRESHLY FILLED PILE SHELL?

No effect. Raymond Concrete Piles can be driven on 2 6 centers. The reinforced steel shell resists any compression or shock set up by such driving. That is one reason why it is left in the ground.

5— “WHAT LOAD WILL THE PILE CARRY?

Always full rating. Many hundreds of tests on-the-job demonstrate that Raymond Concrete Piles show either no settlement, or settlement so small as to be negligible.
