Arkansas Soft Pine Is Less
Expensive for White Enamel
S
TILL more important is the definite fact that it is a thoroughly
practical and satisfactory base for enamel. During various building exhibits in recent years many architects, after examining this wood in
its natural state and seeing with their own eyes its non-resinous character as well as its close grain, have confessed they had not appreciated the vast difference between this wood and similar species of heavy resinous content.
In physical makeup Arkansas Soft Pine has those qualities which actually insure against raised grain or discoloration. Properly sanded, the surface holds its satin-like face permanently. Being non-resinous, no primary coat of shellac is necessary, but zinc or white lead priming coats are applied first. This procedure provides a thorough engagement of pigment and fibre upon which the enamel may be built up to a perfect finish.
By using this wood for interior trim (it takes stains with equal success) all inside finish costs may be held at the minimum — the price being notably lower than that of rarer woods.
