INCREASING SUPPLY by Standardizing Demand
THE STEEL INDUSTRY today is facing a shortage as great as that experienced during the war.
The most effective war measure
was STANDARDIZATION
THE WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE of the Concrete Reinforcing Industry, after careful consideration of the requirements of concrete
design and construction, found that designers were specifying numerous sizes which were practically duplications of equivalent areas, and that elimination of these duplications would not impair the efficiency of the design.
The Committee therefore recommended the elimination of approximately fifty per cent of the commercial sizes of bars, selecting the following as standards:
The present serious situation makes it necessary to again consider means of increasing production to avoid interruption of essential building operations.
The undersigned therefore announce to designers of reinforced concrete
that after March First, 1920, their stocks will be limited to the above list of sizes, and respectfully request the co-operation of their clients.
