Kansas City, Mo.—Montgomery Ward & Co., main office Chicago, 111., contemplate erecting building after plans by John W. McKecknie; nine stories and basement; reinforced-concrete throughout, including columns, girders, floors, stairways and roof; exterior of brick veneer; J59x 1 /b feet; four freight elevators; three passenger elevators; four stairways; 200 horsepower boilers, two engines and generators, 1 switchboard for power, light and heat; sprinkling system with 35,oco-gallon water tank on top of building. Company also plans erecting a secon4 structure,, similar to above, to be completed within, three years, making the total investment about $1,000,000.
La Crosse, WiSWOfficials of the local association are forming a plan to raise the remainder of the $100,000 necessary for the new building to be constructed here this summer.
Lakewood, N. J.—It is stated that $100,- 000 has been donated to the Y. M. C. A. with one-half of which it is proposed erecting a new building this summer.
Leetsdale, Pa.—The Zug Iron & Steel Company, of Pittsburg, Pa., it is stated, will build a plant at Leetsdale to cost about $500,000. The building site is valued at $75,000.
Lewiston, Idaho.—Reports state that the Commissioners have awarded contract to Newton G. Gauntt, of North Yakima, to prepare plans for the new $100,000 Courthouse.
Lexington, Ky.—Final arrangements have been completed, according to reports, for erecting Carnegie Science Building at the Kentucky University, plans for which have been prepared by C. E. Richards, Columbus, O.
Trustees of the Bible College are preparing to erect dormitory costing between $50,- 000 and $60,000. J. W. McGarvey is president.
Madison, Minn.—A committee is reported to have been appointed, of which J. F. Jacobson is chairman, to secure plans and estimates of the cost of a new school.
Maysville, Ky.—It is reported that the First National Bank will erect a building; five or six stories; fireproof; brick, stone and iron.
Memphis, Tenn.—Jones & Furbringer, architects, Porter Building, are preparing plans and will take bids soon for a six-story bank and office-building, 21x74 feet, to be erected at Main Street and Adams Avenue, for the North Memphis Savings Bank, 175 North Main Street. Enameled brick, terracotta, structural iron and steel work will be the material used for construction, with plate glass, marble., and tile work. Estimated cost, $125,000.
A manual training school, it is said, will be built by the Board of Education, to cost $100,000, and two other schools at $40,000 each.
