AFTER THIRTY YEARS
M
ASONIC Temple, State and Randolph Streets,
Chicago, designed in 1891 by Burnham &- Root, Architects; one of the first sky-scrapers in America to use steel frame construction.
is a short form of specification for architectural Terra Cotta of superior quality.
“Northwestern” terra cotta of a spotted pink color was selected for the building, its use contributing largely to the handsome and distinctive appearance of the building.
After thirty years exposure to the elements on Chicago s “windiest corner” the terra cotta facing on this building, comprising the three lower stories and the upper stories and roof gables, is today in as perfect condition as the day it was installed.
“Northwestern terra cotta has for nearly half a century been recognized as particularly characterized by that high quality which can come only from the most skilled workmanship, the most careful manufacture and a sincere desire to produce only the best.
