The American Architect Specification Manual for 1919
By the time this issue reaches subscribers, The American Architect will have mailed the 1919 Edition of The American Architect Specification Manual, a volume of 220 pages, containing the most comprehensive collection of specifications ever undertaken in behalf of Standard Advertised products of interest to Architects.
This volume constitutes a notable addition to the literature of specification writing. The specifications are based upon that intimate knowledge of materials which no one can possess so readily as the manufacturers, but so framed that they are in suitable form for the Architect’s use without tedious manipulation and adaptation.
The specifications in the Manual have been limited to products that are advertised in The American Architect, for the reason that such Advertising constitutes an implied warranty more binding on manufacturers than the most specific of privately printed guaranties. Thus the Architect who makes use of such products and of the specifications prepared and sponsored by the manufacturers is doubly protected. Responsibility for any failure of the goods is readily fixed where it belongs. But it is the experience of most Architects that failures seldom occur under such auspices. For this reason the Manual will prove a first-aid in many emergencies.
In addition to the wealth of specification material in its pages, the Manual contains a reprint of the Standard Documents of the American Institute of Architects and most helpfully arranged indices by commodities, trade names and manufacturers.
A limited number of copies remain for distribution, but among Architects only. Pending exhaustion of the edition, requests for copies should be addressed to the Specification Department of The American Architect.
