Charanjit Singh, born in Lahore in 1922, has a degree in History and Political Science, and an M.A. in English Literature. He is widely travelled and speaks several European languages. He has worked with the governments of various countries on visual media projects, and from 1951-4 was head of the photographic section of Unesco in Paris. As a photographer, his work is of top international level and has appeared in such magazines as Life and Harper s Bazaar. He has also done advertising work for ICI, Shell, and Kodak. As a writer, he has written for many journals, for television in the U.S.A., and for advertising agencies in London. Among his many publications are two books on the stories and system of Indian cookery, Yoga and Indian Art, History and Ideas of the Sikh People, Classic Cooking from India, and Rice Cookery. He won the Bharitya Vidya Bhavan Award and medal for Indian Art and Psychology.
