These valuable drawings are reproduced from the littleknown collection of Twopeny’s work in the British Museum. They were made from buildings in various parts of England during the first half of the last century. They are done from the point of view of the enthusiastic antiquary with knowledge and discrimination. Their great value as a record is increased by the fact that many of the subjects have since disappeared. In quality Twop.eny’s work is neither bald, as in the usual architects’ drawing, nor merely picturesque as in Nash and Prout. Ruskin’s best hardly excelled the workmanship of Twopeny.

St. Joseph, Mo.—The well-known architectural firm of Alfred Meier & Son will hereafter be known under the style of Meier, Hartman & Meier, architects. Mr. P. F. Hartman, the new member of the firm, formerly, of St. Louis, Mo., has been actively engaged in the profession for a period of fifteen years. The new firm will
retain its present offices, 29 and 30 Ballinger Building.
Norfolk, Va.—Mr. C. T. Holtzclaw, architect, of Hampton, formerly of the firm of Holtzclaw & Brother, has filed a petition in voluntary bankruptcy in the Federal Court here, asking relief from firm debts of $20,114.55, of which $19,904.55 are unsecured claims. The petitioner places his assets at $175, all claimed as exempt.

The Elimination of the Grade Crossing.—In a letter , to the New York Times, Mr. Joseph S. Woods says : It is high time the State should adopt a comprehensive plan for the elimination of these grade crossings. There are about 8,600 of them in the State of New York.
