“THE FIVE ORDERS OF ARCHITECTURE”
This is a simple treatise describing in a concise, interesting form the Greek and Roman Orders and the system of proportion to which these orders were reduced by the Architects of the Renaissance. The general method of “laying out” is that employed in the Ècole des Beaux Arts, Paris, but simplified. In addition, there are a large number of valuable plates illustrating the methods of Vignola, Palladio, Bühlmann, Mauch, and other authorities.
The work consists of over four hundred pages of text, 8ʺ × 10ʺ in size, profusely illustrated and handsomely bound in half red morocco leather, with a full Glossary of the architectural terms in common use; a comprehensive Bibliography of the best books on the subject; a large number of full-page plates, reproduced from photographs of famous buildings to show details. referred to in the text in actual use; and a full index.
The text is supplemented by fifty-eight plates of the best typical examples of Greek and Roman architecture, carefully measured and detailed. These plates are 11ʺ × 15ʺ in size, drawn to scale, printed on heavy plate paper, and are provided with a handsome portfolio, convenient for desk use.
