Charleston, S. C. — The contract for the $140, 000 power-house for the Federal Government has been let to Symond and Mayranty, of this city.
Chicago, ILL. — It is reported that the American Tobacco Co. will erect five build
ings between South Forty-third and South Forty-fourth Streets, Colorado Avenue,
and the Belt Line tracks, at a cost of about $1, 000, 000.
It is reported that the plans by Dodge & Morrison, of New York, N. Y., have been accepted by the City Building Department for a theater to be built at 196 and 198 West Madison Street, for Richard Hyde, Brooklyn, N. Y., of Hyde & Behman. The structure will be fireproof, of steel construction, have an auditorium 125 × 118 feet, with a seating capacity of 1, 600, and cost about $250, 000. Archie Ellis, manager of the Colonial Theater, 83 Randolph Street, represents the owners.
The Negro Knights of Pythias, it is stated, are contemplating erecting a $100, 000 temple and sanitarium, but no location has been decided upon.
Holabird & Roche, Monadnock block, southwest corner of Jackson Boulevard and Dearborn Street, are the architects
for a store and loft building, to be erected at the southeast corner of Congress and Franklin streets, for the Brooks estate, represented by Aldis & Co., Monadnock block. It will be ten-story, 212 × 105 feet, of fireproof steel construction, have pressed brick and stone fronts, composition roof, steam heat, electric light, marble and mosaic work, plate glass, and is estimated to cost about $350, 000.
Architect S. N. Crowen, Borland block, southeast corner of Monroe and La Salle Streets, will take figures in about a week on a theater to be built on Madison Street, near Union Street. It will cover 105 × 340 feet, be fireproof, steel construction, with concrete foundation, have probably pressed brick, iron and plate glass front, hardwood finish, steam heat, electric light, marble and mosaic work, the latest improvements, and cost about $100, 000.
County Architect H. W. Huehl, 59 Metropolitan Block, 163 Randolph Street, has been instructed to prepare plans for the juvenile court building to be built on Ewing Street, 115 feet east of Halsted Street, adjoining the Dante school It will be known as the Detention Home for Dependent and Delinquent Children. It will be three-story, and stand on a lot 125 × 119 feet, be of pressed brick and stone, with hardwood finish, steam heat, wiring for electric light, structural iron work, and will cost $75, 000.
Architect P. J. Weber, Fisher Building, 279 Dearborn Street, is taking figure? on a building to be used for shipping room, galvanized iron room, etc., to be
built in connection with a manufacturing plant at West Twelfth and Rockwell Streets for the Aermotor Company. It will be one-story, 180 × 320 feet, of mill construction, have concrete floors, saw-tooth and composition roof, steam heat, electric light, and cost $50, 000.
Architect Zachary T. Davis, 79 Dearborn Street, has completed plans for, and will take figures on a bottling plant to be built at West Kinzie and Paulina Streets for George Lomax. There will be two groups of buildings, two fourstory, 225 × 200 and 125 × 100 feet, and a onestory power plant, 50 × 125 feet. They will be of reinforced and mill construction, with concrete foundations, have composition roofs, two elevators, and all the latest appliances and equipment. The buildings will cost $200, 000.
Architect William G. Krieg, 84 Washington Street, prepared plans some time ago for an apartment building, to be erected at the southeast corner of Warren Avenue and Lincoln Street, for Frederick J. Fadner, attorney, 140 Dearborn Street, who lets the contracts. It will be three-story, 123 × 60. 6 feet, have pressed brick and stone fronts, composition roof, oak finish, steam heat, marble, mosaic and tile work, and cost about $70, 000.
Dallas, Tex. — Plans for the new building of the Y. M. C. A., for which a fund of more than $100, 000 has been subscribed, have been approved by the directors. The building will be located on the south side of Commerce street, and will be 65 × 200 feet and will cost $100, 000.
