New York, N. Y. — On March 31, 1906, Messrs. William. Mitchell Kendall, Burt L. Fenner and William Symmes Richardson became members of the firm of McKim, Mead & White, 160 Fifth avenue.
New York, N. Y. — Louis Brown, architect, died April 11 of pneumonia. He was born in this city forty-three years ago. He was the architect of the new club-house for the Alpha Delta Phi Club, of New York City, and was a member of the Architectural League, Society of the War of 1812, Society of the Colonial Wars, Sons of the Revolution, Players’ Club, and Alpha Delta Phi. Mr. Brown’s student career was passed, in the offices of the late Richard M. Hunt and McKim, Mead & White. For the last five years he had been associated with George C. Palmer and Henry F. Hornbostel. He was unmarried.
Wheeling, W. Va. — Mr. George H. Dieringer, architect, announces that he has returned to Wheeling, W. Va., and established offices in the Lange building, 1428 Market street. Mr. Dieringer wants catalogues and samples of building materials and supplies.
Spokane, Wash. — Mr. C. Ferris White, architect, has won his suit against his former partner, W. W. Hyslop, Judge Kennan deciding the partnership which had existed between the two men ended December 1 of
last year and that Mr. Hyslop had no interest in the contract made by Mr. White in February with the Potlatch Lumber Company.
Davenport, Ia. — Mr. D. M. Fuchs, architect, of Pittsburgh, Pa., has secured a suite of rooms in the Hageboeck Building. Mr. Fuchs is a graduate of the International School of Architectural Engineering of Pennsylvania and has practised his profession for several years.
New York, N. Y. — Mr. Cass Gilbert announces the removal of his office on the 20th of April from Wall street to 11 East Twenty-fourth street, New York.
Buffalo, N. Y. — Mr. William S. Bricknell, architect, has begun a suit against the Bradford Brewing Company for $557. 64, for his work in drawing plans and specifications for a hotel, bottling-works and other buildings at Salamanca.
Niagara Falls, N. Y. — The case of C. R. Phelps, architect, of this city, against Frank Upper was brought to a close in the Supreme Court, April 4. A verdict was rendered, giving the plaintiff the full amount asked for in the complaint, $260. 18. The plaintiff claimed that he had submitted sets of plans and specifications for the construction of the Upper & Upper livery-barn on Second street, and, after accepting them and advertising, receiving and opening bids, the Phelps plans were rejected. Phelps then
brought suit to recover for work performed, with the result as stated above.
Kokomo, Ind. — James F. Bruff, an architect, was killed here April 7, when a streetcar jumped the track and rolled down an embankment twelve feet high.
Milwaukee, Wis. — Damages in the sum of $10, 000 are asked from Gustav E. Kahn and Emil A. Sponholz by Otto C. Uehling, of Uehling & Linde, architects, on allegations of slander. Mr. Uehling says he designed the Levi & Kahn building, to be constructed of reinforced concrete. It is alleged that statements were made that another firm would build a similar building for $2, 300; that the Levi & Kahn building cost $11, 000 less than was claimed, and that the plaintiff did not know how to handle concrete construction. — Milwaukee News.
Chicago, ILL. — Mr. Henry Lord Gay, architect, received an adverse decision in the Appellate Court, April 5, in a suit by which he sought damages from H. H. Kohlsaat, John W. Waldo and Montgomery B. Gibbs, all members of the Chicago Press Club Auxiliary Association. The suit arose over plans for a new building which the Association proposed to erect in 1892. Gay was employed as architect, but the plan was abandoned, and when the architect demanded payment he received $1, 000, but was refused more. He sued and won in the Circuit Court.
