A Quaint Land Term. — “Builder’s baby, ” said Alderman Oddie, at a recent meeting of the Blackburn [Eng. ] Town Council, was the trade-name for the irregular-shaped, useless bits of land which were often left when building schemes were completed. One such piece had been offered to the Corporation for a recreation-ground at twice the price asked for building purposes, but the Council decided to await an amended offer. — Exchange.

Albuquerque, N. M. — It is reported that architects are drawing plans for a 4-story sanitarium building, to cost $300, 000. Dr.
S. M. Strong, a physician of this city, is at the head of the movement.
Allegheny, Pa. — W. E. Cornelius, West Diamond and Erie Sts., has plans for a 6-story warehouse and stable, 120 × 155 feet. Cost, $50, 000. l.
Athens, O. — Bids are asked until noon, May 7, for the erection of a grammar and high-school building. C. M. Copeland is clerk of the School Board. Van Leyen & Schilling, Detroit, Mich., are. architects.
Atlanta, Ga. — It is reported that plans have been completed for proposed freight depot for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad; to be 5 stories, 50 × 280 ft., and cost
from $250, 000 to $300, 000. W. H. Courtenay, Louisville, Ky., chief engineer.
Plans have been prepared, according to reports, for a $50, 000 building to be erected for the Old Woman’s Home, Mrs. S. J. Purtell, president.
Auburn, Ind. — Bids are asked by the County Commissioners (Herman D. Boozer, Auditor), until noon, May 15, for the construction of a county asylum, according to plans and specifications which may be seen at the office of said Auditor, and at the office of Charles R. Weatherhog, architect, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Baltimore, Md. — It is reported that St. Joseph’s Home of Industry, 117-133 N. Carey St., has commissioner Tormey & Leach, architects, 323 N. Charles St., to prepare plans and specifications for asylum buildings to be erected at northwest corner Charles and 28th Sts. Plans provide for main building, 3 stories and basement, 150 x 150 ft., boiler-house, laundry and stable.
Reports state that St. Joseph’s Lyceum and School (Rev. Felix Ward, rector), Old Frederick Road, will remodel its present school building and erect an addition in the rear, addition to be brick, with granite trimmings; reinforced concrete foundation, steel girders, cast-iron columns, tin roof. D. X. Murphy & Bro., architects, 250 5th St., Louisville, Ky.
It is reported that the Legislature has appropriated $50, 000 for erecting a new building at the St. Mary’s Industrial School, for which Tormey & Leach have prepared plans.
Sunderson Bros., architects, Savings Bank bldg., Washington, D. C., it is reported, are preparing plans for the erection of an addition to the hospital of the University
