THE ARCHITECT
and the MONOMARK
ACT 1
Time: 5 years ago.
Scene: C. O. W. ’s office on a Building in course of extension.
C. O. W. to Architect. “The Foreman doesn’t know where to order the six new fittings for the Boardroom which have to match the existing. ”
Architect. “Why? Doesn’t he know the makers? ”
C. O. W. “No, the fittings are stamped C & Co. with a Griffin. I have written to every likely firm but with no success. Jones Brothers are good people. They say they can make some to match, but the cost will be three times as much as their stock designs, which might do. ”
Architect. “ No, I won’t have that. You’d better order them to be matched; there really ought to be some better system of marking. ”
ACT 2
Time: the present.
Scene: the same as Act l.
C. O. W. to Architect. “The fittings we have to repeat for the Boardroom are Monomarked BCM/SILBER. I sent a postcard to BCM/SILBER, London, W. C. l, yesterday, and the representative has called this morning. ”
Architect. “Good! Order six more to match from stock. And by-the-by, I was in Scotland last week and saw the very tile we were looking for. I made a note of the Monomark stamped on it so drop a line to BCM/BLUSTONE to send along their catalogue. And please tell the Quantity Surveyors to specify BCM/ BLUSTONE for my job in Hampshire — no need to ascertain the firm’s name. What a boon the Monomark is for the building Trade. ”
NO MONOMARKS ARE DUPLICATED NO LETTERS ARE OPENED ONLY BRITISH-MADE GOODS ARE MONOMARKED.
Send a postcard to BCM/MONO16, London, W. C. l (BCM/MONO is the Monomark of British Monomarks, Limited ) for a descriptive Brochure of the Monomark System.
